Do you want to rock and make a difference for sick children? Now is your chance! Rock4theKids is a competition based on the popular Rock BandTM series of games in support of SickKids Foundation. The glory and adulation of being on stage no longer belongs just to the rock stars of the world. Rock Band virtuosos can come out of their houses and feel what it’s like to hear the roar of the crowd.
Bands of 4 will rock-out against each other for fun, for prizes, and of course, for the kids.
The ultimate goal is a one-night, one-cause, sold-out show.
The first thing you notice when you walk into David’s Tea is that this definitely isn’t your grandmother’s tea shop: gone are the dusty shelves stacked with tins with names like “Imperial English Breakfast” and “Hibiscus Herbal Blend” in a dimly lit room. Instead, the bright light-filled space on Queen West is lined on one side with round tins with bright green, black, yellow and red labels, and on the right with cheerful ceramic mugs and funky glassware that best displays the gorgeous colours of the steeped teas as you drink them.
Black Celebration Tea
When the store opened last fall, it initially attracted little attention, but since then, David’s has attracted a loyal following of both old and new tea drinkers.
The eyebrow is the unsung hero of the face. It supports, it accentuates, it communicates expression. A face’s entire character can be determined by the shape of the brow – just ask Joan Crawford, or Mr. Spock, or any drag queen. Madonna’s eyebrows shifted radically with each of her new personas. Musician David Bowie has finely arched brows, but alien rock star Ziggy Stardust had none at all.
When I first heard about this Tawaka ‘Ball’ I was immediately intrigued. It boasts having as much antioxidants as 1,285 kilograms of blueberries! And…it’s made out of savage cocao – or chocolate. My first impression upon looking at the beautiful packaging was that it reminded me of a Terry’s Chocolate – you know the ones that you slam on the table to get all the different slices of chocolate?
It smelled decadent and it even came with a wooden bowl that you can reuse later. For chocoholics, this is not a product to be missed. The ‘Ball’ acts like a cleanser as the Ojon trademark Ojon oil is converted to all-natural non irritating soap and the ‘Ball’ does double duty as it acts as a moisturizer because of it being heavily infused with Ojon oil, cocoa seed butter, and passion fruit oil. The ‘Ball’ is produced in small batches and it actually takes 2 days to create and the quantities are limited because Ojon practices sustainable harvesting in partnership with the Tawaka villagers in the rainforests of Central America.
As someone with really sensitive skin I was worried if I could handle the strong chocolate scent but my skin was actually fine because the Tawaka Ball is formulated without artificial color, sulfates, silicone, parabens or preservatives. The ‘Ball’ contains exfoliants that lets you buff away dry skin in the shower or steam bath and it even stimulates circulation. In the bath or steam shower you focus and massage onto troubled areas like the tummy, thighs, hips, and buttocks and the active ingredients stimulate the area as the products infuse into the skin and reduces the look of cellulite. After the steam bath, my skin was so smooth and soft and I smelled like chocolate! For those who have had a mud wrap at the Spa this is an at home do-it yourself spa experience you don’t want to miss!

The first thing that I noticed when my friend and I arrived at the Drake Underground for the Toronto Poetry Slam event on a Saturday night a few weekends ago, was how packed the place was for what we had assumed would be a fairly small event. Despite having arrived thirty minutes before the event was slated to start, not a single table or chair anywhere near the stage was free, but we finally managed to squeeze into a spot at the bar that faced the stage from the back of the room.
I first tried out hibiscus tea at a health club in Cancun Mexico and dearly loved the flavour. Once I discovered about the health benefits, I became r...
Publisher-Creator Mikhail Saavedra began life down by the deepest tip of southern Latin America. He started life with a deep curiosity for all things, with music and books being at the forefront, a curious child by all accounts. As he grew and opened his eyes to the world, he developed a sense of justice and dignity in part as a reaction to growing up in a military dictatorship. Alas, this did not fill him with fear or cynicism but a more rebellious spirit, which led him to being incredibly popular at the principal’s office and the local riot police department….
Then came Canada and it was here that he was able to formulate his deep desire to learn about the world, with Toronto being the kind of multicultural soup that could engage his need to know and embrace. It started with writing, then moved on to what became Toronto’s first Latin Alternative radio show, followed by an all-English show in the same vein. It was this desire to find the true “crossover” among people, which led him to the concept of “Alternavox”
He is a lover of wine, good food, Neruda, Eduardo Galeano, rebel music, revolutionaries, dancing, family and beautiful people. Believes that kindness in this much too cynical world is revolutionary, that you are a better person when able to give a little without asking for the change and that on the same token you should laugh at yourself and the madness surrounding you as often as possible as you set out to change the world bit by bit.
